The El Inglés Vision Zero Zone was launched in 2019 after the mobility secretariat of Bogotá counted 10 road traffic deaths and 123 injuries in the neighborhood over the previous eight years. At this roundabout intersection, vehicular speeds dropped from 60 km/h to 32 km/h after the design transformation, and the reclaimed space increased 2,250 m2 for people to safely move, gather, and play.

Lebu-Jemo Cycling Corridor

The 3 km-long Lebu-Jemo cycling corridor was the inaugural first step in Addis Ababa’s three-year commitment to a 100 km bicycle network. This project is part of a citywide goal to prioritize safer street design.

With the support of the local school organizations and staff from the municipality, GDCI activated an event that included over 250 school kids and teenagers to raise awareness about the importance of street design and transformations like the pedestrianization in Via Beroldo.

With this long-term policy document Bogotá created the precedent of the now adopted Manual de Espacios Públicos (Public Space Manual) to reimagine streets that prioritize vulnerable users, and to inspire safer ways to design streets.
