Manual de Calles de Bogotá

Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI)

Between 2016-2019 the Planning Department of Bogotá led the development of the Bogotá Street Manual. The manual focuses on strategies to ensure safe and fair use of streets, promoting efficient, secure, and sustainable mobility while adapting to the local context.

The approach is influenced by GDCI’s Global Street Design Guide and involves using functional strips to better distribute the space among all street users. During 2019, I supported the development of part of the structure, reviewed the text, and design guidance, as well as managed a portion of the graphics production.

The manual’s goal is to provide essential tools for designing and building streets and improving existing ones. It aims to contribute to creating versatile public spaces that cater to all users, transforming the urban landscape, and promoting sustainable mobility and environmental improvement in the city.

With the administration changes the Manual was put on pause. This year, Bogotá adopted their Public Space Manual, integrating part of the content made for the Street Design Manual.
